Spring

We got dressed up and looked presentable so naturally I took a picture. Carol Hershey invited the Breakfast Club women to a styleshow at the country club which proves that we can still pass as normal suburban matrons when the occasion requires. I don't think any of us will be fitting into the little Ann Taylor togs on display but it was fun to look. Thanks Carol.

Blair turned a wooden frame for a stained glass piece to be installed at our local French restaurant, La Chatelaine. He was proud of its size and that it survived the process intact.

Blair continues to work with Dorothy Barnes (see examples of her work here or scroll way down on this page) and I love the pieces of wood strewn about the basement in various stages of completion. Even in the initial stages, we enjoy viewing the wood through Dorothy's eyes and following where her creative genius leads.

Urban Tribe Christmas

At Christmas we celebrate with our other family, Breakfast Club. Carol treated us to a great lunch at the Columbus Country Club. Elsbeth had a piano recital and was missed. The Bexley choir surprised and embarrassed Ed and Kerry with a chorus of "Happy Birthday."

Blair feels better than new after his knee surgery this week.

Two New Works of Art Arrived in August

Pat Z’s new granddaughter, Hazel, arrived August 4 in Berkeley. For more pictures, follow this link.

Also in California at Siggraph05, David and a group of Carnegie Mellon artists showed their 7-hour video installation entitled Oral Fixation. See more pictures of the installation here. Siggraph is the showcase conference for computer graphics and interactive techniques now in its 32nd year.

Dream Drumming

The heat spell has broken and we’re in the summer slide into fall.

At work, the Ohio State Fair approaches and our staff is busy preparing natural resources displays. Display work is a nice change of pace from our normal publications and web projects. These last few days before fair get a bit hectic. See Blair’s pictures from the fair.

Last night Blair hosted his dream party, a drum circle in our music room with some of Columbus most stellar drummers….Tony West, Eric Paton, Wahru and others…complete with dancers.

Thanks to our tolerant neighbors, the group played into the night. It was a cool and lovely evening.

David and Tessa are moving to a new, more spacious apartment. Tessa soon begins teaching at Chatham College and David’s classes at Carnegie Mellon resume. Hillary’s accepted a position at Columbia. BJ continues to groom his faux combover and delights the crowds at local karoake bars with his aging salesman schtick. And it sounds like his audio engineer business at Schwab’s continues to grow.

Cynthia is off to Pingree, Colorado for a weeklong immersion with polymer clay artist friends.

Whidbey Week

I’m back from a lovely vacation in Portland and on Whidbey Island outside Seattle. The polymer clay community’s foremost experts on color, Maggie Maggio and Lindly Haunani, had our little group focused on Maggie’s new color theory and color mixing.

After a week, it all began to sink in. That’s Carol Simmon’s color study of Fimo …mine wasn’t nearly as neat.

We focused on food as well, inspired by Karen’s wonderful Baby Island Lodge kitchen and by Lindly’s culinary skills.

The ocean, the tidepools, a first trip to funky Portland, Powell’s bookstore, Maggie’s house and family, our cottage on the beach at Oceanside, late nights of girltalk…wonderful memories.

Elsbeth’s Birthday

Elsbeth’s children threw a lovely, thoroughly German bash for her 70th birthday for family and friends. At the same time Elsbeth completed the first part of her Suzuki piano training by performing her recital. We’re all hoping to look so good at her age.

Andrew Lombardi Art Exhibit

Here are some pictures from Andrew’s memorial exhibit at Ohio University. Not only was the artwork powerful but the tribute from his young friends was moving as well.

BC in Party Clothes

Carol Hershey feted Breakfast Club members to a Rotary Club dinner dance at the mall. We cleaned up pretty well and didn’t embarass ourselves. The Biermans even won a prize. Thanks, Carol.
